Elections successfully ended in Tain without any major incident across 114 polling stations in the constituency despite a boycott of this election by the ruling party. The Electoral Commission (EC) office in the constituency is aiming to to declare constituency level result by 21:00 hours GMT today 2nd January.
Today's election became necessary due to the inability of the constituency to vote in the national presidential runoff on 28th December due to due to lack of ballot materials.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) agents were absent from the polling stations due to an official boycott by the party. It is not clear if their members voted in the elections or not but the declaration of the results would indicate how many NPP members voted at the end of the day.
The Tain Constituency is the last of Ghana's 230 constituencies to hold elections and the results from this constituency will pave the way for the Electoral Commission of Ghana to declare the winner of Ghana 2008 presidential elections.
