It's official, Ghana presidential elections goes into a run-off


Ghana's Electoral Commission has announced the presidential polls will go into a run-off on December 28 between Nana Akuffo-Addo and John Atta Mills .

The certified results from 229 constituencies announced by the EC credits  the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Nana Akuffo-Addo 4,159,439 polls representing 49.13 % of votes cast,

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) contender John Atta Mills is behind him with 4056634, representing 47.13%

Even though, there were eight candidates to succeed President John Kufuor, the elections have been or more a straight fight between the NDC and the NPP. The other six put together won less than 10% of total votes cast.

 

Total valid 8,465,834

Total rejected ballots: 205,438

Total votes cast:  8671272

Total registered : 12,472758

 

The turnout for Ghana's firth general elections since 1992   when democracy was reintroduced was 69.92%.
