Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Thursday suspended his week-long campaign in the Western Region that began on Tuesday following the death of Mr. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning. He said at a news briefing at Sefwi-Wiaso that the party received the sad news with shock. "It is a big blow to the party and the nation as a whole." Nana Akufo-Addo described the late Mr. Baah-Wiredu as the "only person in the NPP who has no enemies within or outside the party." "He is extremely competent and excels in every field. He was a great friend and partner who can be trusted," he said. "If I win in December, I will use his death to vindicate him in recognition of his hard work, dedication, commitment and loyalty to both the party and the nation", the NPP flag bearer said. Mr. Peter Mac-Manu, Chairman of NPP who is on the campaign trail with Nana Akufo-Addo's, said to honour the late Mr. Baah-Wiredu, he had ordered that all NPP offices across the country should be closed for today. "Today is a very sad day for us and flags at all our offices should fly at half mast and all party activities are suspended" he said. GNA |
