Offinso NCCE holds education forum on elections



     The Offinso Municipal Directorate of
 
the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Friday held a
 
forum on effective participation and non-violent elections at Offinso.
     The forum, sponsored by the Offinso Municipal Assembly, was
 
attended by aspiring Parliamentary candidates, representatives of various
 
political parties from the Offinso South Constituency, Heads of
 
Departments and other opinion leaders.
     Addressing the Forum, Mr. Victor Amponsah, Senior Civic
 
Education Officer of the NCCE, said urged political activists to use
 
lawful means in their membership drive to ensure continued peace and
 
unity in the area.
     He said it was important for the people to exercise their franchise and
 
elect leaders of their choice, adding that fighting their opponents or
 
attacking personalities would not help in any way.
     He reminded them that it is against the rules to turn up at the voting
 
centres in party T-shirts of show some sign of political affiliation.
     Chief Superintendent Kojo Appiagyei, Offinso Divisional Police
 
Commander, said the Police was ever ready in playing its traditional role
 
of protecting life and property through maintenance of law and order.
     Mr Appiagyei called on leaders or party activists to educate their
 
members on the need to know their polling centres, make sure they have
 
their voters' identity cards intact and be ready to cast their votes early
 
and not doing anything that would disturb the electoral process.
