The Offinso Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Friday held a forum on effective participation and non-violent elections at Offinso. The forum, sponsored by the Offinso Municipal Assembly, was attended by aspiring Parliamentary candidates, representatives of various political parties from the Offinso South Constituency, Heads of Departments and other opinion leaders. Addressing the Forum, Mr. Victor Amponsah, Senior Civic Education Officer of the NCCE, said urged political activists to use lawful means in their membership drive to ensure continued peace and unity in the area. He said it was important for the people to exercise their franchise and elect leaders of their choice, adding that fighting their opponents or attacking personalities would not help in any way. He reminded them that it is against the rules to turn up at the voting centres in party T-shirts of show some sign of political affiliation. Chief Superintendent Kojo Appiagyei, Offinso Divisional Police Commander, said the Police was ever ready in playing its traditional role of protecting life and property through maintenance of law and order. Mr Appiagyei called on leaders or party activists to educate their members on the need to know their polling centres, make sure they have their voters' identity cards intact and be ready to cast their votes early and not doing anything that would disturb the electoral process.
